The Women’s Alliance successfully brought back International Women’s Day to Bellingham in 2005.  Celebrated globally and locally on March 8, International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on the progress that women have made and a time to unite as we work towards future goals.  Our local celebration presents powerful and positive feminist messages that help draw together women from all communities through spoken word, music, art, dancing, and culinary wonders.  The event has been successful in coordinating with other local women’s organizations, working with local colleges and elementary schools by connecting classroom to community, involving the migrant community, low income communities, women at risk, and providing a forum for girls and women to express themselves.
